Garden 16

42A Lower Icknield Way

It's not really our garden but the collection of Cacti that is hopefully of interest.

I’ve been interested in Cacti ever since my Grandmother gave me one for my

8th birthday many years ago. The size of my collection has fluctuated over the

years, from a few plants in my Dad’s cold greenhouse in Bicester to where it is

now, with about 1300 plants and seedlings in a 6 year old 20x12 ft heated

greenhouse.

In more recent years I have specialised in a couple of the largest of the genera

in the Cactus family, and have held National Collection status until recently. I

have acquired a number of plants from friends in Belgium, the Netherlands,

Germany and Italy as well as in our own country. Many though, I have grown

from seed, as this is a relatively easy way of gaining specimens that are other

wise hard to find.

I shall be slimming down my collection, so will hope to have a number plants

available for sale.

Otherwise our garden is mostly laid down to grass, with a wild area towards

the bottom and lovely views across the fields to the ridge.

Key features:

  • Large Cacti collection
  • Beautiful countryside views
