Garden 2

41 Cowleaze

A wildlife haven in a mid sized garden

A medium sized garden which wraps around the house. Although it’s a cold garden, slow to get going in the spring, as the bulk of it faces north east, we can usually find sunshine all year round.

We try to garden for nature, use no pesticides and enjoy the butterflies and insects we attract. A year on, we feel we’re making steady progress in providing more shrubs and cover for nature. We’ve seen a huge upsurge in numbers of butterflies and insects, such as ladybirds and have successfully attracted a greater range of birds such as goldcrests, wrens and grey wagtails as regular visitors. We are fortunate in having up to four hedgehogs visiting the camera. We hope they’re all earning their keep as pest controllers!

The garden features a mixed planting of flowers, vegetables and fruit. It also has a double pond; one part reserved for fish, the other for aquatic life. On the whole it’s quiet and peaceful and a good place to sit watching the changes in the garden as the seasons progress.

The garden is unsuitable for wheelchairs and no dogs please.

Key features:

  • A work in progress
  • Double pond
